In the current age of camera technology and GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome), most people don't have a simple point-and-shoot compact camera any longer. I happen to have one for the purpose of vlogging or videos on-the-go. However that didn't quite come to fruition.
So today, I decided to take my Canon IXUS 255HS with me to work just to snap some random photos of my day.
Overall, I would say it was a surprisingly pleasant experience not having to fiddle with aperture, ISO and shutter speed settings. I could just point and shoot quite literally.
The photos from the camera seem to be quite clear as well, although at its widest, it seems to suffer from a little distortion. I chose not to correct that in Lightroom though.
The only complaint I have with this compact camera is that I can't choose my focus point. It has no touch screen or manual focusing system. It simply selects a high contrast area to focus on. So far it isn't a major deal breaker. I just had to get used to it.
I used VSCO Film in Lightroom for post-processing. That might have brought out some charm in the photos.
I'm contemplating investing in an EOS M and a Ricoh GR. Street photography seems to be something I really enjoy. And documenting life in general.
I know where my hard earned money will be going!
